Belgium (above☝️) understands the risk of vaccine induced myocarditis hence their nuanced approach. Meanwhile, the USA continues to recommend Moderna for many young males at highest risk (16-24). In this publication you will learn 2 things:

  1. What other countries are doing

  2. What the evidence suggests could reduce the risk vaccine induced myocarditis

❤️ First, what is myocarditis?

Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle commonly seen after viral infection. Moreover, alcohol, drugs, spider bites, chemotherapy, and even mRNA vaccines can precipitate such a disease process. That is bad as myocarditis can lead to an impairment of the hearts electrical system and cause lethal arrhythmias, depressed heart function, heart failure, stroke, or sudden cardiac death. Many cases are mild, but many are not.

To set the table, understand this first: myocarditis after mRNA vaccination is seen in young healthy males under 40, more specifically those that are between the ages of 16-24. Additionally, it seems to frequently occur after the second dose and is seen more frequently with Moderna than Pfizer.
