💉Pfizer Says 25-Fold Increase In Protection From OMICRON VARIANT With 3 Doses Instead Of 2
On December 8th 2021 at 6:54 AM, a Pfizer press release revealed preliminary laboratory studies that demonstrated high COVID-19 vaccine efficacy against the NEW OMICRON VARIANT. In other words, getting a booster increased neutralizing antibody titers 25-fold. As a side note, a link to the press release is posted below. Moreover, if you don’t want to read through the press release, it has been summarized here for you 👇🏻
Antibody titers after 3rd dose just as protective against OMICRON variant as 2 doses against wild-type/original strain. Meaning, the booster dose can return antibodies to previous levels of protection
3rd dose increased CD8+ T Cells against spike protein epitope (CD8+ cells directly kill infected cells and signal others to help increase the immune response. An epitope is an antigen aka the thing our antibodies attach to on infected cells so they can be destroyed)
2 doses still effective against severe disease, however 25-fold less protective against OMICRON overall
Development of an OMICRON specific mRNA vaccine is underway but will not be available until March 2022
HOW PFIZER ARRIVED AT THE PREVIOUSLY CITED RESULTS: pVNT testing (pseudovirus neutralization) compared blood samples from individuals who received 2 doses and 3 doses (30 mcg each dose). Blood collected 3 weeks after 2nd dose and 4 weeks after 3rd dose
Testing then compared geometric mean titers (GMT) of neutralizing antibodies against DELTA, then against the ORIGINAL VARIANT, and then against OMICRON
GMT against OMICRON variant was 154
GMT against DELTA VARIANT WAS 398
GMT against ORIGINAL STRAIN 155
GMT of 154 is a numerical expression of high antibody protection against OMICRON variant
💡So what does all of this really mean? Should you rush out and get a booster? If you really want, go ahead. However, as of the most recent public health data available, 2 doses of Pfizer still provides at least 45% protection against SARS-CoV-2 overall. Unfortunately, that definition of protection only takes into account antibody levels. That said, there is much more to immunity than just antibodies. There are interferons, memory b cells, CD8+ T cells, CD4+ T cells, the list goes on and on. All of the previously mentioned either directly, or indirectly protect your body from pathogens.
The good news is, according to the most recent data from South Africa, symptoms from OMICRON seem to be very mild, affecting males 40 and under. Furthermore, there were no OMICRON deaths reported in the past 5 days from South Africa (where this variant originated near).
The take away, all other immunity/protection doesn’t simply disappear when antibodies wane, although the mainstream media would have you think otherwise. All things considered, a question needs to be answered. In light of the formerly discussed facts, would you get a booster or hold off?
