Dr. Jha says even if your child has been infected, they should then get a COVID vaccine because it does a good job of further protecting them against severe disease & death. Just so there is no confusion, there are no reasonable data to show vaccinating young kids reduces severe disease or death
To be specific, let’s talk about why Covid vaccines for kids under 5 are not justified:
🔴 No point estimate for symptomatic disease
🔴 No meaningful data to show protection against severe disease & death
🔴 No appropriate primary endpoints to support efficacy, only GMTs (geometric mean antibody titers to an outdates virus strain) / inferiority (comparing just barely passing antibodies levels in those under 5 to a different cohort’s control arm and calling it “good enough”)
🔴 No protection from infection
✅ Same exposure to severe adverse events with little benefit
