“You’re Not Gonna Get Covid If You Have These Vaccinations”

Oh the irony. In the video above, President Joe Biden told Americans Covid vaccinations would prevent infection. That did not age well. Nonetheless, we learn a major lesson from such a folly.

To start, never make promises to people in public health. That said, you can assure individuals a medical intervention is mostly sound, but you can not promise them it is fool proof. To elaborate, a hypertensive medication like HCTZ SHOULD reduce blood pressure. However, the caveat is other blood pressure medications exist and that is a testament to the fact HCTZ may not work as intended. Ergo, a physician or authority looking to educate the public on a particular medical intervention simultaneously needs to explain the risk of it not working, and the benefit of its intended action. The takeaway- nothing is guaranteed, so be clear about risks and benefits, especially in the public health realm.

All and all, concise communication regarding any medical intervention is essential. Therefore, President Joe Biden does not get a pass on communicating vaccine effectiveness appropriately and needs to be more accurate when communicating with the masses.
